WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I was always considered big growing up although my weight has always been like a yo yo, for a women my hight I was considered big or curvy. I started to see drastic changed after I turned 21 as my eating habits started to become my comfort during my life stage at uni.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I’m an outgoing and fun individual and my weight didn’t stop me from going out and enjoying my social life with my friends and family however, at some point when I had my low days I always use to feel out place and left out because I was surrounded by fit friends. It got to the point where I started to feel uncomfortable in my own skin. I was always conscience about how I looked especially when I use to go out on a special occasion I felt very insecure because I couldn’t dress fablous like my friends but it didn’t stop me from being the life of the party.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
When I gained another dress size up I decided that I had to do something immediately before my weight gets out of control. From that moment, I changed my set of mind and from that day onwards I made sure that I stuck to my commitment. I started to feel like as if I was going to sufferer from depression due to over thinking which motivated me to changed my life style.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
first of all, I started doing the main thing which was going to the gym. I enjoyed the gym session so I was working out regularly 3/4 times a week. I knew my biggest challenge was to change my eating habit. So I was mentally prepared for it but at the same time I didn’t want to be too strict so I only cut down on carbs and cut off sweets, chocolates, fried food and I stop snacking for the sake of Bordem. I started drinking at least 2L of water a day which kept me going through out the day and graudually pounds started shedding off slowly but surely.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
It took me at least 6 months to start seeing a differences but before that like 3-4 months into my weigh loss journey people started to say that I was loosing weight which motivated me more to work harder and to an extra mile at the gym even though I didn’t see it myself.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
My biggest challenge was food, I literally love food and for me it was a major scrafise specially being surround by temptation. I had to fight with myself mentally to have more self control which started to become a bad habit at first. I had to work on my self control and train my mind to overcome my gulity pleasure. Eventually, I started to enjoy eatting healthy as I got use to it and it was interesting to try different healthy food which I thought I will never achieve. When I started to see the benefits of eating healthy food I had more self control with my food as I felt good within and my skin started to look clearer.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I had so many ups and downs and sometimes I use to let the downs get the best of me which lead to lack of motivation at the gym and back to old eating habits. But however, what motivates me was looking back at my old pictures and seeing how far I’ve become. But I must say Instagram has made huge impact in my weight loss journey because I had so many people featuring me on their page as well as people messaging me and asking me about how I achieved my weight loss which pushed me to continue as I did not realise how much of an influence I had on some people. Therefore, I decided to create a weight loss Instagram page showing my weight loss transformation which not only help others but it helped me to remember that I am inspiring others so I felt at some point I was like a mentor who doesn’t want to let their team down. Whenever I feel low I just look at my Instagram to remind me where I started and also I follow allot of weight loss stories account and it helps to stay positive and determined
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Through out my weight loss journey I did put my diet/ fitness aside for a while but somehow my weight maintained. I didn’t put on nor loss drastically.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It took me a year to become a size 12 from a size 16 by living a healthy balance life style.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
My portion of food has cut down and I don’t eat take awaya, fast foods as much and also my love for fizzy drinks has gone down the drain. I will drink fizzy drinks once in a while special occasion in particular. I also tend to get full much easier than before.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I feel more lighter and I don’t get tired as often. I am more fit, and capable of being on my feet for a long period of time. I walk a long distance and also my stamina has developed majorly.
